2010-08-23 22:47:00

Columbia, SC (Sports Network) - The NCAA is reportedly investigating South Carolina tight end Weslye Saunders about possible rules violations regarding dealings with a sports agent. According to The State, Saunders is believed to be connected to the NCAA's ongoing investigation of players on North Carolina's football team, including star defensive tackle Marvin Austin, for similar allegations.

South Carolina athletics director Eric Hyman released a statement Sunday regarding the incident.

"The NCAA has been in contact with us regarding a possible rules violation in one of our programs. We have and will continue to cooperate fully with their inquiry. We have confidence in our compliance program and will work with the NCAA to bring this matter to a resolution in a timely fashion."

The report states Saunders did not comment on the incident in question. According to ESPN, the NCAA is looking into who provided funds for a vacation Saunders was on this spring.

Saunders, who will be a senior in the fall, caught 32 passes for 353 yards and three touchdowns for the Gamecocks last season.
