Notes: NOTES: The Champions Tour travels to California this week for the Home Care &Hospice First Tee Open at Pebble Beach. Eight of the top 10 players on themoney list are competing this week. Money leader and five-time 2010 winnerBernhard Langer and two-time '10 winner Nick Price are the only top 15 playersnot in the field. Fred Couples will be trying to join Langer as the onlyplayers to win at least four times on tour this season. Couples, who is secondon the money list, currently trails Langer by $325,883.Last year, Jeff Sluman carded a hole-in-one and fired a four-under 68 in thefinal round to win this event for the second year in a row. Sluman was theonly player in the final three groups to break par during a breezy final roundon the California coast. He ended at 10-under 206 for a two-shot win over GeneJones. Sluman's hole-in-one came at the 178-yard fifth hole.In 2008, Sluman closed with a five-under 67 in the final round to cruise to afive-shot win over Craig Stadler and Fuzzy Zoeller. Sluman finished at14-under-par 202, one shot off Stadler's tournament record score. It wasSluman's second win of the season and he was the only player in the field torecord all three rounds in the 60s.Gil Morgan posted rounds of 65-67 on the weekend in 2007to hold off HaleIrwin and win. Morgan completed his 25th Champions Tour victory at 14-under-par 202. He moved into third place on the Champions Tour all-time wins list,which Irwin tops. Pebble Beach is where Morgan became the first player in U.S.Open history to reach double figures under par. That came when he got to 10-under during the third round of the 1992 U.S. Open. He pushed his score to 12-under in the third round that week, before giving it back. He closed withrounds of 77-81 to end eight behind winner Tom Kite.In 2006, Scott Simpson birdied the final hole to earn his first ChampionsTour crown. Simpson, who won the 1987 U.S. Open at Olympic Club, closed with afour-under 68 to end at 12-under-par 204. He was the only player in the fieldto record three rounds in the 60s.Irwin tallied four birdies in his final eight holes in the final round in 2005to shoot a four-under 68 and win. He finished at 13-under-par 203 and won by astroke over Morris Hatalsky, Stadler and Morgan.This tournament serves as the national championship for The First Tee, aninitiative of the World Golf Foundation which provides young people of allbackgrounds an opportunity to develop life-enhancing values through golf andcharacter education.Del Monte Golf Club replaced Bayonet Golf Course in 2005 as the tournament'ssecond site. Del Monte, at 6,357 yards, is the shortest course on the 2010Champions Tour schedule. Del Monte Golf Club, which was established in 1897,is the oldest golf course in continuous operation west of the MississippiRiver.This tournament is like no other, as Champions Tour players are teamed withselect junior players from around the country and amateur contestants.
