Umag, Croatia (Sports Network) - Sixth-seeded Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov and eighth-seeded Argentine veteran Juan Ignacio Chela were a pair of first- round winners Monday at the Croatia Open. Chela charged past Spain's Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo 6-4, 6-1, while Dolgopolov held off Italian Paolo Lorenzi 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-3) on the red clay at ITC Stella Maris. Dolgopolov needed 2 hours, 36 minutes to stave off a game Lorenzi.

One other first-rounder saw Croatian wild card Franco Skugor paste Italian Filippo Volandri 6-2, 6-1.

This week's top seeds are Russian star Nikolay Davydenko, last week's Hamburg runner-up Jurgen Melzer and long-time Croatian favorite Ivan Ljubicic. The reigning Umag champion Davydenko defeated this week's fourth seed, Juan Carlos Ferrero, in last year's finale here.
