Umag, Croatia (Sports Network) - Seeded players Philipp Petzschner and Sergiy Stakhovsky were a pair of first-round upset victims Tuesday at the clay-court Croatia Open. Belgian Olivier Rochus, a runner-up on the grass in Newport two weeks ago, easily drove out the fifth-seeded Petzschner, of Germany, 6-2, 6-3, while Italian Potito Starace knocked off the seventh-seeded Stakhovsky, of Ukraine, 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-0 at ITC Stella Maris.

Two other Italians joined Starace in the second round, as Andreas Seppi got past Argentine Maximo Gonzalez 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 and qualifier Simone Bolelli beat Croatian wild card Antonio Veic 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

Additional Day-2 wins came for Croatian wild card Ivan Dodig, Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas, Czech Jan Hajek and Frenchman Stephane Robert.

This week's top seeds are Russian star Nikolay Davydenko, last week's Hamburg runner-up Jurgen Melzer and long-time Croatian favorite Ivan Ljubicic. The reigning Umag champion Davydenko defeated this week's fourth seed, Juan Carlos Ferrero, in last year's finale here.
